JCDS artists offer art for sale
Johnson County Developmental Supports Emerging Artists and Papercrete Works programs are inviting the public to their annual public Summer Art Sale from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, July 19, at the Johnson County Arts & Heritage Center, 8788 Metcalf Ave., Overland Park.
Attendees can meet the artists and purchase original studio pieces while supporting local artists with intellectual and developmental disabilities.
The programs are art-as-employment opportunities offered through Johnson County Developmental Supports. Participants are adult artists with IDD who are passionate and driven to create artwork. Through these programs, they have the opportunity to show and sell their artwork at their studio, local art shows, galleries, and participate in marketing their work through their online store, Facebook and Instagram.
Sales from the artwork go directly to the artists and their supplies.
JCDS Emerging Artists and Papercrete Works enable artists to make money in an industry not typically open for people with IDD, and opens the door to equal citizenship, personal growth, communication, self-expression, self-advocacy and self-esteem.
