BOCC ponders redistricting map
For the first time since 2013, population growth patterns in Johnson County have changed enough so that the boundaries of the county's six districts need to be redrawn.
Voters in these six districts each elect one commissioner to the Johnson County Board of County Commissioners. The county chair is not affected by redistricting since that position is elected countywide.
Kansas law requires a review of the districts every three years. New maps are required when the county's district populations become out of balance, which generally means there is at least a 10% deviation between them. in 2025, the districts have about an 11% deviation.
The board approved four proposed redistricting maps for further review and consideration. The BOCC is tentatively scheduled to meet as Committee of the Whole on July 24 to either choose and adopt map or provide further direction for map development.
Board action is anticipated to formally consider adoption of new map on July 31 or meet as a Committee of the Whole, if needed. Board action to adopt a new district map will occur on Aug. 7, if needed.

The BOCC's new boundaries will be updated online after adoption of a new district map.
