50 Plus focuses on summer wellness

Johnson County Park and Recreation District’s 50 Plus Program is partnering with Johnson County K-State Extension to offer a range of summer educational sessions that are designed to promote healthier and more informed lifestyles for older adults.

Stay hydrated and informed during a Healthy Hydration program at 10 a.m. Thursday, July 17, at the Tomahawk Ridge Community Center, 11902 Lowell Ave., Overland Park, by exploring nutrition and hydration through food and beverages.

Gardeners looking for expert advice can join Gardening with a Master Gardener at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 5. This free virtual class, Battling Drought in Hot Weather, offers participants the opportunity to ask questions and discuss solutions with a Master Gardener.

At 1 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 7, a Keys to Embracing Aging session will take place at Meadowbrook Park Clubhouse, 9101 Nall Ave., Prairie Village. The program will highlight 12 practices that support healthy aging, including stress management and brain activity.

For culinary inspiration, a Cooking for One or Two program is scheduled at 10 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 14, at New Century Fieldhouse, 551 New Century Parkway.

This session helps participants learn the basics of meal planning, recipe reading and healthy modifications.

Money Habitudes, a financial behavior workshop using a fun, card-based assessment, takes place at 1 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 12, at the Roeland Park Community Center, 4850 Rosewood Dr.

Finally, Your Money, Your Goals will be offered at 10 a.m. Tuesday, July 22, at the New Century Fieldhouse, in guiding participants through smart financial decision making.
