Program to tell historic tales about Olathe
Get ready to satisfy an appetite for both food and knowledge about Olathe history with Johnson County Park and Recreation 50 Plus this winter.
The first Lunch & Learn program in the New Year features “Stories of Historic Olathe” by Bob Courtney from the Olathe Historical Society.
The program will take place from noon to 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 22, at the New Century Fieldhouse.
The presentation details two historical events in Olathe.
First, attendees will enjoy the short film “I’ve Filled My Bill” – a portrayal of William Quantrill’s vengeful ride into Olathe on Sept. 6, 1862, following the execution of his friend Perry Hoy.
Next, the short film “Flying Jayhawks” will showcase the legacy of the bygone Olathe Naval Air Station and its pivotal role as a training facility for more than 4,000 pilots during World War II.
Cost, including lunch, is $35/$39 nonresidents.
