Governor's disaster declaration extended

On Wednesday, Oct. 7, the State Finance Council approved Governor Laura Kelly's request to extend her state of disaster declaration. It was set to expire on Oct. 15. The declaration has now been extended to Nov. 15.

The declaration is needed for the state to receive federal support to deliver personal protective equipment, transport testing kits and specimens, establish and maintain COVID-19 housing and more.

The declaration is also tied to a number of executive orders, including the mask mandate that the Board of County Commissioners has affirmed. If no additional action is taken by the board, the mandate will remain in effect as long as the disaster declaration is active or until it is rescinded.
