On Friday, July 24, regional health officers and directors, including Johnson County Department of Health and Environment Director Dr. Sanmi Areola and Johnson County Local Health Officer Dr. Joseph LeMaster released a joint letter to the community. The letter outlines concerns about the increase in COVID-19 cases in the Kansas City metro. It also urges compliance with safety precautions, such as mask wearing, physical distancing and good hand hygiene, so further restrictive actions are not necessary.
The message indicates among other steps to stop the spread, it’s important to limit the interactions of individuals in bars, restaurants and other indoor shopping venues, particularly where masks cannot be worn during eating/drinking. And these establishments should provide patrons with curbside service and serve outdoors whenever possible.
