County recognizes R5 Certified Green partners

Recently, Johnson County Government recognized 26 local businesses, nonprofit organizations and school as R5 Certified Green Partner for outstanding environmental achievements related to waste diversion, composting and more.

In order to qualify for the R5 certification, administered through the Johnson County Department of Health and Environment’s recycling division, applicants met or exceeded criteria in five categories.

  • REinvest in their company, community, economy and future.
  • REthink their business process, how they manage resources and purchasing power.
  • REduce consumption, waste and their environmental impact.
  • REuse products and consciously buy reusables.
  • REcycle as a last resort and buy recycled products to support a closed-loop system.

  • Grantham University
  • Growing Futures Early Education Center
  • InterUrban Lofts
  • InTouch Solutions
  • Rise Against Hunger
  • Shawnee Mission School District (16 schools and centers)
  • University of Kansas Edwards Campus
  • Wiener Kitchen
