The Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) hosted by El Centro and Johnson County K-State Research and Extension, provides free tax preparation and review to all Johnson County residents who make less than $60,000 per year. The service is operated by Next Step KC and supported by the United Way of Greater Kansas City.
All volunteers are certified and trained by the IRS. A recent IRS audit of the Sunset Drive Office Building VITA site awarded the site a perfect score of 100 percent compliance.
