County commission sets maximum expenditure budget

Budget 2018

The Board of County Commissioners on Thursday authorized the publication of the proposed fiscal year 2018 maximum budget totaling $1.064 billion, composed of $822.8 million in expenditures and $242 million in reserves.

“The FY 2018 proposed budget includes the potential to roll back the mill levy by a quarter mill,” said Ed Eilert, chairman of the Board of County Commissioners.

After today, FY 2018 budgeted expenditures can be decreased, but not increased.

Doors open June 10 at Arts & Heritage Center

Arts & Heritage Center is located at 8788 Metcalf Ave.

A grand opening celebration is scheduled from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, June 10, at the recently completed Johnson County Arts & Heritage Center, 8788 Metcalf Avenue, Overland Park.

Annual book sale starts June 8

The Sizzlin’ Summer Book Sale is about to begin! Residents can find great deals on movies, books, mucis and more. There’s a selection of thousands of items and most are priced from 25¢ to $2. Cash, checks and credit cards are accepted.

The sale runs from Thursday, June 8 through Saturday, June 10 at the Johnson County Community College gym.

Movies in the Park program begins with Moana

The 2017 Movies in the Park program kicks off on Tuesday, June 6, with the animated Disney movie Moana at the Johnson County Park & Recreation District’s The Theatre in the Park complex in Shawnee Mission Park.
