Johnson County Museum exhibit celebrates golden anniversary

Johnson County Museum is celebrating its golden anniversary with the opening of a special “Let’s celebrate: The Johnson County Museum is 50!” exhibit.

The new, temporary exhibit gallery is part of the main museum space at the Johnson County Arts & Heritage Center at 8788 Metcalf Avenue, Overland Park. The special exhibit, opening Oct. 7 and running through April 4, 2018, showcases objects collected over the past 50 years, many of which have never been displayed. The exhibit also features a timeline of the museum’s history as well as facts about its growth over five decades. 

Treasurer, motor vehicle offices to close Oct. 9 for in-service training

Johnson County Treasury and Financial Management and Johnson County Motor Vehicle offices will be closed to the public Monday, Oct. 9, for an all-staff training. All offices will resume regular business hours on Tuesday, Oct. 10.

Mental Health Center kicks off national transportation study

Research study

Johnson County Mental Health Center held a ribbon-cutting ceremony Wednesday to kick off a national transportation pilot study.

County officials were joined by representatives from UnitedHealthcare and Dartmouth College — who will lead a year-long research pilot that looks at how mental health clients get to work, school and medical appointments.

The transportation pilot program will look at two questions:

Cars in the Park event on Sept. 30 benefits Special Olympians

About 200 vehicles and 1,000 spectators are anticipated for the annual Cars in the Park car show from 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 30, at The Theatre in the Park complex in Shawnee Mission Park.

Admission to Cars in the Park is free for spectators and concessions will be available. The Theatre in the Park is located in Shawnee Mission Park and is accessible via a separate entrance at 7710 Renner Road, Shawnee.
