Two Johnson County airports, two fun and family-friendly September events

People of all ages can enjoy a family-friendly event at each of Johnson County’s airports this month. Johnson County operates the Johnson County Executive Airport in Olathe and the New Century AirCenter near Gardner.

Airport Fun Day:
Saturday, September 19 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.|
Johnson County Executive Airport (near 151st and Pflumm, Olathe)

This family-friendly event includes a day of kids’ activities (including a Moonwalk and face painting), helicopter and airplane rides, displays by the KC Flight Formation Team, simulator rides and more. The event is being put on by Air Associates and KC Copters (A Johnny Rowlands Company.) Admission is free, with purchase options including lunch, helicopter/airplane rides, simulator experiences and a raffle. More information is available at http://www.airportfunday.com/.

Commemorative Air Force (CAF) Heart of America Wing 2015 Airshow:
Saturday, Sept 26 (9 a.m. to 5 p.m.) and Sunday, Sept 27 (9 a.m. to 3 p.m.)
CAF Hangar, New Century AirCenter (6 Aero Plaza, New Century)

This special event honors Lt. Col. Richard E. Cole, USAF, Ret., for his 100th birthday. Among other heroic acts, Lt. Col. Cole was Jimmy Doolittle's co-pilot in the famous raid against Japan. This weekend’s festivities include Warbird airplane rides, daily airshow at 1 p.m., museum tours, kids’ activities, meet and greet with veterans and more.
