Johnson County Election Office releases recount results

Candidate withdraws recount request, canvass canceled

OLATHE, Kan. – On Friday evening, Nov. 18, 2016, the Johnson County Election Office received notice from the Kansas Secretary of State’s Office that Senate District 10 candidate, Vicki Hiatt, had requested a recount of the votes in her race with Senator Mary Pilcher Cook. The Election Office commenced the recount at 8:00 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 19, 2016. A canvass for the recount was scheduled for Wednesday, November 23.

By Monday afternoon, Nov. 21, all ballots had been located and tabulated. Within the hour, the Election Office learned from the Secretary of State’s Office that the candidate had withdrawn her request for a recount. The canvass that had been scheduled for 1:30 p.m. on Nov. 23 has been canceled.

The general public was made aware of the recount for the Senate District 10 race. Therefore, the Election Office leadership believes they have an obligation to the public to release the results of the completed recount.
