Next week Johnson County Meals on Wheels will participate in the national 14th annual March for Meals event, aimed at benefiting Johnson County seniors, recruiting volunteers and raising awareness for senior hunger and isolation. The media is invited to cover all of the following events, and we hope you’ll help us get the word out about the fundraisers.
Sunday, March 20: Crazy Good Eats Fundraiser
Crazy Good Eats BBQ will hold a fundraiser to support Johnson County’s March for Meals effort. On March 20 from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m., 10 percent of the proceeds collected will benefit Johnson County Meals on Wheels. The address is 16695A 151st Street, Olathe.
Monday, March 21 - Friday, March 25: Community Champion Ride-Alongs
On Monday, March 21, Wednesday, March 23, Thursday, March 24 and Friday, March 25, community leaders will accompany Meals on Wheels volunteers on their regular Meals on Wheels routes as part of “Champions Week.” These leaders include elected officials, leaders of county government, fire officials and police officers. On one of the routes, an Olathe Fire Captain will check smoke detectors at the homes of Meals on Wheels clients. To accompany one of these routes during Champions Week, please contact Jody Hanson.
Thursday, March 24: Food Truck Rally
Johnson County Meals on Wheels and Food Truck Mafia KC host the first annual Food Truck Rally to benefit Johnson County Meals on Wheels. It takes place on Thursday, March 24, at the Merriam Marketplace (5740 Merriam Dr.) from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Donations will be collected to support March for Meals. Seven different food trucks will be on site, accepting cash, debit cards and credit cards.
Johnson County Meals on Wheels, part of the Nutrition Program of the Johnson County Area Agency on Aging (AAA), serves more than 550 homebound seniors each day, requiring up to 275 volunteers each week.
