As we proceed down the path of the BOCC approving the FY 2016 budget later this summer, you have plenty of ways to learn about where your Johnson County property tax dollars go, and we’d like to hear your questions along the way.
If you visit the Proposed FY 2016 Budget page on our web site, you’ll find everything you need to get up to speed on the County Manager’s 2016 proposed budget. It’s a lot of information…so here are a few suggestions on some key documents:
- The Budget Message is a note from County Manager Hannes Zacharias to Chairman Eilert and the County Commissioners setting up a framework for this year’s proposed budget. He explains why a modest mill levy increase is necessary to maintain service levels, and gives the BOCC two other options for consideration.
- Pages 2 and 3 of The Budget Summary give a high level look at our 2016 budgeted expenditures and revenues, along with the proposed Capital Improvement Program for 2016.
- The Requests for Additional Resources document shows all of the requests for new resources for 2016 from our various departments, agencies and offices, and whether they are fully funded, partially funded or not funded in the 2016 proposed budget.
- If you have interest in looking at the budget for a particular department, agency or office they are all available from the Proposed FY 2016 Budget page.
The public hearing on the budget takes place on Monday, July 27 at 7 p.m. in the BOCC hearing room in downtown Olathe (111 S. Cherry Street, third floor.) The public is invited to attend or watch online from jocogov.org.
