Suicide

Suicide is a reaction to intense feelings of loneliness, worthlessness, hopelessness or depression. Threats or attempts of suicide are calls for help. Knowing the warning signs and being prepared to answer these calls for help could prevent many suicides.

Warning signs that someone is thinking about suicide are:

Threats of suicide or previous attempts.

Severe and prolonged depression.

Preparation for death such as putting affairs in order or giving away possessions.

Having a plan for suicide and the means to carry it out.

Threats to commit suicide should always be taken seriously. Seek professional help immediately and stay with the person until help is available.
