How do I avoid paying taxes on an old vehicle that was sold during the last year?

If the vehicle is a car or light truck, the renewal notice is for future taxes and is proof that the prior year was already paid.   Since you will not be renewing your license, no tax is due for the upcoming year for that vehicle.  

Heavy trucks or trailers are assessed by the Appraiser's office.  Contact the Appraiser's Office (715-9000) to advise that the vehicle has been sold and they will advise you.
