Becoming Johnson County & the 1950s All-Electric House

Shows a backlit sign "Becoming Johnson County" in grey metal letters; the sign sits above four murals that depict land (a map); policy (water towers); regionalism (royals parade); and People (Shawnee Days parade)

Explore our signature exhibition to gain a deeper understanding of the county’s history. Through the themes of land, policy, and regionalism, discover how Johnson County residents have worked together to create the community of today. The 1950s All-Electric House, the centerpiece of the exhibit, exemplifies the American Dream many hoped to find in Johnson County.
