For Kids & Families

Visit KidScape, where you can play in the past! (Recommended for toddler through elementary age)

History comes to life in our kid-sized community! Experience life in the past through play as you explore over 3,500 square feet of buildings and landscape inspired by the history of Johnson County. Preschool through early elementary aged children will build a sense of place in our kid-sized rural, urban, and suburban areas. Explore an 1870s farmhouse and garden, a 1900s cityscape, and a 1950s streetscape complete with a diner. Other spaces to discover include a post office, city hall, hospital, classroom, theater, and a special hidden surprise behind a waterfall! We even have a soft play area for our youngest visitors.

Groups over 10 please call to schedule.

Hours: 10 am to 4:30 pm Monday through Saturday
Admission: $5 adults, $4 seniors, $3 children (1-17)

Sensory Friendly Time

Our Sensory Friendly mornings provide an accepting atmosphere for our visitors who have sensory sensitivities. Experience the museum and KidScape with fewer visitors one Saturday a month from 9-10 am before the museum opens to the public. Social stories and visual schedules are available for you to print at home to help make your visit enjoyable and predictable. Once families enter in the morning they are welcome to stay for the day. Sensory Friendly Time pre-registration is required as attendance is limited to ensure a safe and enjoyable experience for all participating. Siblings may attend. Standard admission prices apply.

One Saturday a month, 9-10 am
