The Johnson County Community Developmental Disabilities Organization will be hosting its second annual Resource Fair and Marketplace 2-7 p.m., Oct. 3, 2019 at the Arts and Heritage Center located at 8788 Metcalf Ave. in Overland Park. This event is coordinated in conjunction with the CDDO Council of Community Members.
The CDDO coordinates services and supports for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities. The goal of this event is to connect families and individuals with IDD to community resources utilized by this population. The event includes local IDD service providers, healthcare providers, employment services, and more. This event also includes a marketplace where individuals with IDD can sell items they have made. Last year, there were booths for dog toys, candies/cookies/snacks, novelty home décor, and art projects.
Attendance is encouraged for people and families on the HCBS IDD waiver waiting list, and others who may want to learn more about the CDDO. It’s important that individuals who need IDD services and are not currently on the waiting list reach out to the CDDO or attend this event to begin the intake process. The waiting list in Kansas is currently eight years long, so individuals aged 5 and older who need IDD services, or who could need them in the future, should get on the list as soon as possible.
At the inaugural event last year, the CDDO facilitated more than 30 intakes, and staff is hoping to increase that number substantially this year.
If you or someone you know needs IDD services, or just wants to learn more about the resources available in Johnson County, please join us at the Resource Fair and Marketplace!
