Launch

Launch! is designed to equip you to be a successful volunteer with us.

To prepare you for service, our curriculum focuses on:

  • The Vision, Mission, and Values of Our Department
  • Confidentiality
  • Safety/Security
  • Emergency Procedures
  • Volunteer Guidelines

RSVP

To reserve your spot in an upcoming training, fill out the Volunteer Interest Form. You will be contacted by the Volunteers & Programs Coordinator to begin your background check and all other paperwork will be filled out during the training you attend.

Upcoming Sessions

Adult Residential Center and Adult Field Services Volunteers

Training sessions will be held at the Adult Residential Center on the following dates:

Monday, April 3 (6-9 pm)
Monday, June 12 (6-9 pm)
Monday, August 7 (6-9 pm)
Monday, October 2 (6-9 pm)
Monday, November 6 (6-9 pm)

Please RSVP to Erin Moeder at erin.moeder@jocogov.org at least one (1) week prior to the training you would like to attend.

We will meet at the Administrative Conference Room at 105 Roeland Park Drive, New Century, KS 66031.

 

Juvenile Detention Center and Juvenile Field Services Volunteers

Training sessions will be held at the Youth and Family Services Center on the following dates:

Monday, March 6 (6-9 pm)
Monday, May 1 (6-9 pm)
Monday, July 17 (6-9 pm)
Monday, September 4 (6-9 pm)
Monday, October 9 (6-9 pm)

Please RSVP to Erin Moeder at erin.moeder@jocogov.org at least one (1) week prior to the training you would like to attend.

The Youth and Family Services Center is located at 920 W. Spruce, Olathe, KS 66061.

Upcoming Re-Certification Training for Current Volunteers

**All Current Volunteers are required to attend one (1) Re-Certification training each year**
**All Re-Certification trainings will be held at the Youth & Family Services Center**
**Juvenile Volunteers will need to complete TB test)

Volunteer: Path of Service

Thank you for your interest in serving with us. We think it’s great that you’re considering becoming a part of our community partner family.

We hope to make the pathway to service easy for you, but we also need to ensure the safety of our clients, staff, and other personnel who work at our facilities.

To meet our safety standards, you must meet certain qualifications, complete required paperwork, and attend a Launch! session before you will be allowed to serve.

Qualifications

To serve with us, you must:

  • Have a sincere interest in helping offenders succeed
  • Be at least 21 years old
  • Pass a background check—If you have a prior conviction for a crime against a person or persons or if you have been confirmed of child abuse/neglect, you will not pass our background check.
  • Have successfully completed any legal/probationary obligations at least 6 months prior to your start date

You must fill out an application packet, which includes several documents. For more information about required documentation, please contact us by filling out the Volunteer Interest Form.

Volunteering with Adults

Our Current Needs

  • Mentors for the Mentoring 2 Excel Program
  • Structured programming that aids in behavior change
  • Skill Building

Requirements to Volunteer

Volunteers receive training in the areas of safety and security and our staff are committed to the safety of everyone in the facility, including volunteers. Our training covers all rules, regulations, and guideline that volunteers must know in order to be prepared to work with our clients and enter the facility. Even those with previous experience in other facilities wil need to attend Launch. There is no time requirement to volunteer. We appreciate any time you are willing to give in order to help our clients.

 

Volunteering with Juveniles

Volunteers are placed in either the Juvenile Detention Center (JDC) or the Adolescent Center for Treatment (ACT).

Our Current Needs

  • Structured programming that aids in behavior change
  • Tutors
  • Skill Building
  • Speakers (ACT only)

Requirements to Volunteer

  • Submit a Volunteer Interest Form
  • Attend Launch Training
  • Pass a background check
  • Be screened for tuberculosis (provided by Corrections upon completion of background check)
  • Have a physician sign a health assessment form, clearing you medically to volunteer (JDC only)
