Making a Difference is a free program designed for adolescents 11 to 13 years old and includes a separate program just for parents. Making a Difference is an abstinence approach to HIV/STD and teen pregnancy prevention that explores facts, feelings, attitudes, and values related to sexuality. In a relaxed environment, adolescents will explore facts and feelings related to sexuality. Material is presented through presentations, activities, and games. Kids that complete the program receive a $10 gift card to Wal-Mart.
The program typically consists of one short parent class during the evening (1.5 hours) and two afternoon kid classes. Each kid class lasts 4 hours and kids must be present for both classes to complete the program. A consent form must be signed by a parent/adult caregiver on or before the first kid class for their child to attend.
