County moving to electronic only building permit submittals

Johnson County Planning & Building Codes plans to move to electronic only building permit submittals starting Jan. 6, 2020.

Planning & Building Codes launched the MyGovernmentOnline Permitting and Inspections software in October. The software enhances the application submittal, plan review and inspection experience for contractors, design professionals, and residents through online services. It’s part of a coordinated effort to expedite plan reviews and permit processing.

Contractors, design professionals, and residents may use the software to:

  • Apply for building and trade permits and pay fees.
  • Submit plans and documents.
  • Track application progress up to permit issuance or notice of approval.
  • View and print review comment letters, “in-compliance” building plans and completed inspection reports.
  • Request inspections.
  • Receive email or phone call notifications when an inspection is completed.

To use the software, set up a free account at mygovernmentonline.org or use your current account if you already have one. Note: Google Chrome or Firefox web browser is required.

Please download and review a copy of the MyGovernmentOnline customer portal instruction document (PDF).

Note that you must upload any documents required with your application in PDF format.

If you request an inspection online, you must submit your inspection request prior to TIME OF DAY to have an inspection performed the next business day concrete inspections will continue to require a 2-hour notice and be inspected the SAME DAY the concrete is being poured.

County inspectors will enter inspection results in the field, so you will receive your inspection result via email or through the customer portal in near real-time. Please ensure email addresses are updated with Johnson County Contractor Licensing for contractors and in the Customer Portal for other contacts.
