If you own property in Johnson County, you will soon receive your annual tax statement, if you haven’t already. The first half of your real estate and personal property taxes are due on or before Monday, December 21, 2015, and the second half of your taxes are due on or before Tuesday, May 10, 2016. Some property owners will notice that their taxes were affected by mill levy increases for Johnson County (1.8 mills), Johnson County Library (.75) and Johnson County Park & Recreation District (.75) taxing districts. For the first time in a decade, the Board of County Commissioners increased the mill levy for the 2016 budget to help maintain and improve county services. It’s important to note that property values in Johnson County increased 5.9% which also accounts for some of the tax increases. Additionally, changes in other taxing districts may also affect your overall property tax bill.
