POPS in the PARK

The Kansas City Symphony will present its annual "POPS in the PARK" free concert on Labor Day, Monday, Sept. 7, beginning at 7 p.m. at The Theatre in the Park in Shawnee Mission Park. The concert will celebrate the holiday with familiar classics, from the “Star-Spangled Banner” and Carousel to Star Wars and Superman. The program will be led by Kansas City Symphony Associate Conductor Aram Demirjian. Here's the scoop:

  • The parking lot opens at 4:30 p.m.
  • Gates open at 5 p.m.
  • The symphony's instrument petting zoo, a pre-concert activity where trained musicians help youngsters try their hands at a variety of orchestral instruments, opens at 5:30 p.m.  
  • Entertainment by the Youth Symphony of Kansas City begins at 6 p.m.
  • The orchestra takes the stage at 7 p.m.
