Enjoy this weekend's weather at Storywalk

Get outside this weekend and bring the family to Antioch Park (6501 Antioch Rd, Merriam) for the new Storywalk book installed this week. In “Round Is a Tortilla,” written by Roseanne Greenfield Thong and illustrated by John Parra, children will discover they are surrounded by a world of shapes. Many of the featured objects are Latino in origin, but all are universal in appeal.

Storywalk is a collaborative program between Johnson County Library and Johnson County Park & Recreation District. Johnson County Librarian Bradley Debrick said this is the program’s first bilingual Storywalk book.  Its placement in Antioch Park ties into Hispanic Heritage Month, which is Sept. 15 through Oct. 15, and will be celebrated by the library on Saturday, Oct. 10, with a variety of programs under the heading ¡Viva la Fiesta!

Each Storywalk sign includes a simple activity, and a question or rhyme in addition to definitions of the Spanish words used in the book. This book also supports skills emphasized in the library’s  6 by 6 Ready to Read early literacy program.
