The Johnson County Meals on Wheels is now offering program participants the most important meal of the day.
With the breakfast program, which began December 9, Meals on Wheels volunteers deliver a breakfast meal for the next day at the same time as the lunch meal on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays. Seniors who eat at the county's Nutrition Centers will have the option to order breakfast when making a lunch reservation.
The two meals provide two-thirds of the Dietary Reference Intake (DRI) recommended for older adults. Like the lunch menu, the breakfast menu is appropriate for all participants, including those with diabetes.
While there is no fee for this breakfast meal, donations are accepted. The suggested donation for two meals per day is $5.00. No one is denied services for the inability to donate.
