Learn how to stretch your grocery budget with healthy foods

We know we should eat healthier but it can seem too expensive when your family is on a limited or fixed imcome. And conflicting information about what is and isn’t healthy makes it even harder to know what to buy.

Learn how to get the most  during a grocery store tour with Johnson County K-State Research and Extension food and nutrition expert Crystal Futrell and trained Extension Master Food Volunteers.

The free tours will be held at local grocery stores around the county throughout the month of August. Each tour lasts about an hour and can accommodate five residents. At the end of the tour, participants will receive a $10 gift card to the grocery store.

Tours will include information about:

  • How to purchase produce in its three forms.
  • When to use each form of produce.
  • The difference between organic and conventional produce.
  • How to cut through marketing hype to select the healthiest products.

It’s easy to sign up for one of these tours. To find out which dates, times and locations are available, contact Johnson County Extension Agent Crystal Futrell at 913-715-7016, email her at crystal.futrell@jocogov.org , or go to www.johnson.ksu.edu.
