The Johnson County Motor Vehicle  Offices will be closed during the first of May as the Kansas Department of Revenue upgrades its statewide computer system to a new computer system.

Beginning Tuesday, May 1, Johnson County’s Motor Vehicle Offices at 782 N. Ridgeview Road, Olathe, and 6000 Lamar Avenue, Mission, will not process vehicle titles nor renew vehicle registrations and will be closed to the public for approximately 5 to 7 business days.

On April 27, 2012, Attorney General Derek Schmidt, Johnson County Sheriff Frank Denning, Wyandotte County Sheriff Don Ash and Michael Halliwell, Director of Pharmacy for Ball’s Food Stores will hold a press conference concerning their efforts this year during the National Prescription Drug Take-Back Day.

The event will be held in the courtyard of the Johnson County Courthouse, 125 N. Cherry, Olathe, KS 66061 at 2:30 p.m.  In the event of rain, the event will be held inside the main entrance of the courthouse.

Calling all artists and designers
Perhaps you have seen the Johnson County Library courier trucks? Capt. Ahab’s Fine Seafood? Kafka’s Pest Kontrol? Dr. Jekyll’s Pharmacy? Benjamin Buttons’ Diaper Service? In 2009, the library launched a creative and successful campaign using the themes of classic books which were turned into humorous business ideas and featured on library courier trucks. These eye-catching images have been stopping traffic for the past three years but it’s time for an update.

Turn in your unused or expired medication for safe disposal on:

  • Friday, April 27th, 8am - 5pm
  • Saturday, April 28th, 10am-2pm

Two locations are available for Johnson County:

The Johnson County Motor Vehicle Offices located at 782 N. Ridgeview Road in Olathe and 6000 Lamar in Mission will be closed beginning Tuesday, May 1, 2012 for approximately 5-7 business days while the State of Kansas implements a new motor vehicle computer system statewide.

Johnson County Sheriff’s Office Communications Systems Manager Steve Davidson will be presented the Life Time Achievement award during the Mid-America Regional Council’s Annual Public Safety Telecommunicators Appreciation Celebration. In addition, two other Sheriff's Office employees will be honored during the celebration. Master Deputy Allison Anderson will receive the Everyday Hero award and Master Deputy Christopher Mills will be awarded the Outstanding Individual Performance in a Critical Incident award.
 

The Johnson County Library Board is pleased to announce the appointment of Sean Casserley as the County Librarian for the Johnson County (KS) Library.

Johnson County’s digital 2011 Annual Report is now accessible electronically through the county’s website at www.jocogov.org.

Release of the report was announced Thursday, April 12, by County Manager Hannes Zacharias. It is the county’s second annual report.

“This report is intended to inform citizens of Johnson County about the accomplishments of County Government during the past year in our continuing efforts to explain what we are and who we serve,” he said.

Johnson County’s Youth and Family Services Center in west Olathe has been awarded LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) Platinum certification by the U.S. Green Building Council.

It is the first building in Johnson County and in the Kansas City Metropolitan Region to achieve the Platinum rating and, according to the project architects’ review of LEED awards to date, it appears to be the first juvenile detention center in the world to be certified LEED Platinum.
