The Johnson County Motor Vehicle Office located at 6000 Lamar Avenue in Mission has reopened to the public for business.
Johnson County Library will present a program with Jane Smiley, Pulitzer Prize winning author at 7 p.m. Tuesday, April 10, at the Central Resource Library, 9875 W. 87th Street, Overland Park, Kan. 66212. Her appearance is the capstone of the Library’s “Legacies of the Civil War” series of programs.
Johnson County Library will close the Cedar Roe Neighborhood Library, 5120 Cedar, Roeland Park, KS, on Tuesday and Wednesday, March 27 and 28, 2012, to install Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) equipment and add tags to all of the books and audiovisual materials at that library location. The exterior book drop will remain open during this time.
Johnson County Division of Emergency Management, in coordination with the National Weather Service will be conducting a test of the outdoor warning siren system today at 1:30 PM. This test is being performed in conjunction with the statewide tornado drill which is part of Severe Weather Awareness Week (12-16 March 2012) activities.

The Friends of the Johnson County Library will hold a Spring Break Used Bookstore Sidewalk Sale at the Blue Valley Neighborhood Library, 9000 W. 151st St., Overland Park, KS March 15-17 in the lobby adjacent to the Friends Used Book Store which is open year round.
Hours for the sale are:
• Thursday, March 15, 10 a.m. to 9 p.m.
• Friday, March 16, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
• Saturday, March 17th, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Johnson County has approved its second department merger in a month.
The latest consolidation involved the Department of Health and the Environmental Department to form the new Department of Health and Environment. On Thursday, March 1, the Johnson County Board of Commissioners authorized the merger by a 5-1 vote with First District Commissioner Edward Peterson dissenting. Commissioner Calvin Hayden was absent from the meeting.
Johnson County Library will close the Shawnee Neighborhood Library, 13811 Johnson Drive on Tuesday and Wednesday, March 13 and 14, 2012, to install Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) equipment and add tags to all of the books and audiovisual materials at that library location. The exterior book drop will remain open during this time.
Johnson County Library is implementing RFID to improve the movement of materials between all 13 Johnson County Library locations. The RFID tags and equipment will also significantly reduce theft.
